Overview Back to the top...

Below is a case study we kindly received from Stephen Phillips at the ArvinMeritor Heavy Vehicle Braking Systems' plant in Cwmbran, Wales. Stephen is a production engineer on-site, and has been very successful in using the Ultraprobe 550 to detect compressed air leaks.

Please note that the following case study was considered true and correct at the time of publication, and has been amended slightly to improve readability.

"We recently completed a survey of the site and identified potential savings of £40,750, carrying out repairs to the estimated value of £13,250.

We have internally agreed that each area of the plant will use the instrument for one month to carry out a survey and repair any resultant leaks. This means that the entire site will be surveyed four times a year.

I have trained a number of tradesmen on the shop floor to use the instrument and, after some initial scepticism (e.g. 'I don't need an instrument to tell me there's an air leak'), everyone has been impressed with just how easy the Ultraprobe is to use.

The main topic covered during this training was how to estimate the size of the leak, while emphasising the importance of filling in the report sheets and, of course, carrying out any necessary repairs."
