Handbooks Available

We are pleased to offer some application based handbooks and a DVD. The following are available as word documents:

1. Monitoring Bearings and Mechanical Equipment:

This guide covers how ultrasound technology can help detect lack of lubrication in bearings and the use of spectral analysis to trend and analyse problems.

http://www.alpine-components.co.uk/guides-whitepapers/bearing-monitoring-guide/

2. Setting up a Leak Detection Survey:

Estimates of loss per year costs of air and nitrogen have become staggering. A conservative estimate for the cost per year of one 1/8" air leak is ?996. Imagine finding and repairing just one leak of this size in each of the production areas of your company.

Figures for nitrogen leaks are even more serious. Just one 1/16" nitrogen leak can cost over ?16,000 per year.

Hydrocarbon leaks waste energy, pollute the environment and also create a serious hazard with the possibility of explosion. Small bore pipework, flanges and instrument housings are often major contributors to leaks. This leak detection guide, aimed primarily at compressed air systems (though most principles can be applied to any pressurised gas system) shows how to set up and maintain a leak detection scheme.

3. Steam Trap Testing Guide:

Studies show that a single failed steam trap can cost a company over ?500 per year in energy loss. Whether your company has 50 or 500 traps, substantial savings can be made by testing traps and reducing wasted steam. This guide tells you how.

4. Introduction to Thermography DVD

This is an entertaining and informative DVD which covers the history of infrared, (including initial experiments etc), how the technology became important in predictive maintenance, electrical testing and inspection of buildings etc.

We have a limited number of DVDs available free of charge on a first come first served basis.

Step Change In Safety Meeting

Alpine were invited to this offshore oil & gas event as a result of the hydrocarbon leak reduction programme piloted by UKOOA (United Kingdom Offshore Oil Association). The objective was to provide an opportunity for members of the oil and gas companies to learn from & interact with presenters in a series of workshops and give individuals an environment to share knowledge, good practices and experiences. The following topics were covered:

  • 1) Recognise Hazard and Reduce Risk
  • 2) Personal Ownership for Safety
  • 3) Asset Integrity
  • 4) Safety Leadership
  • 5) Panel Discussion
  • 6) OIAC Annual Open Meeting

Various different scenarios were played out (including analysing the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster) followed by group discussions. The continuing theme was how well intentioned actions often give rise to unforseen consequences.

Alpine would be very pleased to support similar best practice events run by any industry concerned with improving safety. Just get in touch if you know of something that may be appropriate.

Future Events, Training & New Starter At Alpine

Ultrasound Level 1 Course 14th to 18th November 2005, National Fluid Power Centre, Worksop

For some time we have been looking for a venue for our level 1 ultrasound course which would offer delegates a mix of practical and classroom time. The National Fluid Power Centre in Worksop exceeded my expectations. Couple a tremendous conference / classroom area with an extensive practical laboratory all on the same floor and I think this years course will be outstanding. We are now taking bookings for the course.

Ultrasound World II Conference - 6th to 9th November, Clearwater Beach, Florida

Before embarking on your Level 1 course, find out how others use the technology. One of the best forums available is at a conference where there is open discourse about the practices and principles of ultrasound. It is a great opportunity to learn from others and to network with fellow inspectors from around the globe. Such a forum is this year's Ultrasound World II Conference in Clearwater Beach Florida, November 6-9. It's a wonderful location for learning and a great place to bring your family. Get in touch if you are interested in either going or perhaps presenting a relevant paper.

Keeping Electrical Switchgear Safe - 14th & 15th September 2005 at Stirling and Aberdeen

These very successful and informative events organised by EA Technology have been held countrywide. Two further events are planned at Stirling and Aberdeen.

Subjects covered include legal matters, health & safety issues, risk assessment and mitigation, condition monitoring and substation integrity. Alpine Components will have a small stand covering condition monitoring and will be able to demonstrate practical use of ultrasound, TEV and infrared techniques. Instruments will be available for delegates to assess. Please drop us a line if you would like to attend.

IR Chem, Dublin 20th to 22nd September

Alpine and UE Systems will be exhibiting at the above event held at City West Conference centre. This is Ireland?s PharmaChem, Processing and Biotech Exhibition, and has moved to Dublin after two decades in Cork. Our stand number is B34.

Already many of the leading suppliers of production equipment, instrumentation and automation systems, laboratory, environmental and waste management systems as well as packaging and safety systems, have reserved stand space.

Introduction to Thermography 5th October 2005 at Stirling

This short course is designed for new and existing users of Thermal Imaging cameras. However, it is equally appropriate for potential purchasers and new staff from existing installations requiring an overview of cameras and their practical applications.

New Starter at Alpine Components:

We are very pleased to welcome Jon Hill to Alpine. He started with us a couple of months ago and has already impressed with his grasp of the business we're involved in. I am sure he will prove to be a great asset to the company. His role is inside sales and support.
