Book a Mini Air Leak Survey

Mini Air Leak Survey

To promote the launch of the latest version of Ultratrend DMS (data management and reporting software), we are offering potential users a complimentary mini air leak survey.

We will come to site, demonstrate the digital Ultraprobe of your choice (i.e. the UP9000, UP10000 or the new UP3000) and then locate some leaks out on plant. We will also provide you with tags to leave at the leak, as well as a report detailing the approximate cost of the leaks we found.

We would estimate that a mini air leak survey will take about an hour, and could be an ideal way to demonstrate the benefits of a compressed air leak programme to colleagues or clients.

If this is of interest to any of our readers, then please e-mail me. It would also be useful if you could include an estimate of annual usage of compressed air, and what percentage is unaccounted for (e.g. leaks, unsuitable applications, etc).

I'm not too sure what the demand will be for something like this, so please bear with us while we get through the responses and schedule visits.

Verdict on the Level 1 Ultrasound Course

Clearly, April in Worksop appeals to a lot of our customers. We broke the attendance record, as 35 Ultraprobe users packed into the National Fluid Power Centre for five days.

According to our Micky, attendees were able to understand Blake's American accent, particularly in the bar afterwards. I guess this only serves to illustrate that learning can also be fun, and we look forward more than ever to running the course again next year.

My thanks as always to those who attended and made the week so memorable, and certificates should be with you all shortly (if they haven't already arrived).

Ultraprobe Tip - the "Teleflex"

Ultraprobe Tip - the Teleflex

Last month, I gave a demonstration of the Ultraprobe 10,000 at a mail sorting office in Dublin. For those of you familiar with letter sorting machinery, it will come as no surprise that failing bearings is a real issue.

The bearings used in these sorting machines can't be "contacted onto" in the conventional manner using a stethoscope probe, as the spindle is always rotating. In any case, the sheer number of bearings in each of these machines would make it an impossible task.

One particular machine at the site was known to have bearing problems, and the very night before my visit, seven bearings were replaced, as there had been an audible indication that something was wrong. This didn't solve the problem.

We used the new Telescopic and Flexible scanning module ("teleflex") to track down the problematic bearing. This probe has a reach of nearly 2 metres, and features a flexible end shaft connected to a small sensor. With this, it was extremely easy to access each of the bearings and take both decibel (dB) readings and sound file recordings.

The "bad" bearing turned out to be 20 dB higher than other similar bearings, and was situated close to the main rotating shaft, which was initially thought to be the culprit.

Interestingly, this accessory had originally been designed for leak detection on pipework high above ground, but it certainly has a multitude of other applications as well. The "teleflex" is now available for all Ultraprobes.

News & Future Events

The cost of energy continues to be a major concern for our customers, and to continue raising awareness of this topic, Alpine will be attending the following events in the not too distant future...

  • Energy and Sustainability Conference. This conference is being held in Taunton in the South West on the 25th and 26th of June, and we will be giving a presentation on the second day on compressed air leak detection.

  • The Energy Event 2008. This exhibition is focusing on energy procurement, management and efficiency, and is being held on the 10th and 11th of September at the National Motorcycle Museum near Birmingham.
