This Level 1 Thermography Course has been designed for new users of FLIR infrared cameras. However, much of the content is also appropriate for both potential purchasers, and those who require an in-depth understanding of measurement techniques and their applications.
The courses are run by FLIR Systems in conjunction with the Infrared Training Center, and the content is recognised by the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing. Those attending will be taught by an ASNT and ERPI Level 3 instructor, and will quickly become proficient and certified thermographers.
We recommend that all attendees bring along their infrared camera, as well as a laptop with the PC software installed. If this isn't possible, then a limited number of spare cameras will be made available during the course.
Dress code for the week is casual, and lunch and refreshments are included. Course materials and information packs will also be handed out. A multiple-choice exam is held on the final day, and those who pass will be awarded with a Level 1 certification.
Introduction to thermography: applications, benchmarks, camera technology (e.g. scanning systems and Focal Plane Arrays), spot pyrometers and thermocouples.
Heat and temperature: contact vs. non-contact testing, heat and measurement, and how infrared radiation is converted into temperature.
Basic heat transfer theory: conductance, convection, heat and temperature, heat transfer, radiation, temperature definition and measurement, and thermodynamics.
Measurement techniques: atmospheric and environmental considerations, optimising measurement factors and system performance, and system considerations.
Infrared theory: calibration, emissivity, radiosity, reflectivity, scientific laws (black bodies, conduction, convection and radiation), and transmittance and emittance.
Camera and software familiarisation: creating reports, downloading images and analysing them, and hands-on with the camera throughout the course (including practical exercises in the labs).
