Level 1 Ultrasound Course

5-day accredited training course for Ultraprobe users

Our Level 1 Ultrasound Course has been designed for new users of the Ultraprobe and other ultrasonic instruments. However, much of the content is also appropriate for both potential purchasers, and those who require an in-depth understanding of measurement techniques and their applications.

Level 1 Ultrasound Course

This comprehensive 5-day course, which is run in conjunction with UE Systems, covers the theory, principles and practices of ultrasound, and fully complies with guidelines put together by The American Society of Nondestructive Testing.

A complete list of course topics can be found below, but includes: identifying different types of leaks, monitoring mechanical equipment, and carrying out inspections in noisy environments. We also place a strong emphasis on energy conservation (to help reduce rising energy costs), and carry out plenty of practical exercises in the labs.

Ultraprobes will be provided during the week for use during the practical, but we would recommend that all attendees bring along a laptop with any PC software installed.

Dress code for the week is casual, and lunch and refreshments are included. Course materials and information packs will also be handed out. A multiple-choice exam is held on the final day, and those who pass will be awarded with a Level 1 certification.

Introduction to ultrasound: applications, basics of ultrasound, concepts and definitions, inspection equipment, overview of the Level 1 certification requirements, recording and reporting results, and sound theory.

Leak detection: boilers and condensers, detection methods for pressure and vacuum leaks, estimating CFM losses and cost savings, heat exchangers, liquid leak amplification, the gross-to-fine detection method and working in noisy environments.

Electrical inspections: combining infrared and ultrasound, electrical equipment commonly found in the field, fault confirmation methods, low and high voltage inspections, Radio Frequency Interference, safety considerations and substations.

Mechanical inspections: bearing and lubrication monitoring, data logging, failure points, mechanical equipment commonly inspected, steam traps, spectral analysis, and trending and troubleshooting guidelines.
